How to add vocaster to obs? I have the vocaster one studio and I can't add in the right way, when I'm monitoring my voice on vocaster it sounds very good and clean but in obs the volume and quality is low 🙄
9:06 UPDATE: They now allow you to adjust some of the basic parameters inside the 'Enhance mode'. To find this, update vocaster hub then look for that 48v button. If the software is up to date, there will be a new button that says "Edit" next to that 48v button. Click "Edit" and play around in there. Here's a lil breakdown of what they added (and what they didn't). One slider for compression, and slider for low, slider for mid, and slider for high. They also have a thing called rumble reduction which reduces the impact of when a mic is adjusted (like if I accidently smack the mic stand). Rumble reduction has three levels: off, low, high. Low seems to work well for me because high seems to be overly hollow and absent of low frequencies while off is too risky for my movements. I'm guessing that the rumble reduction is basically a compressor on the low frequencies only, but I am not sure. Each of the presets, radio, warm, clean, and bright, have that "Edit" section so they can be customized individually. All of this can be done for host or guest. Very nice touches.
They still do not have a dB meter anywhere in the program though. I want a dB in the vocaster hub software. This comment from 1/27/2023

I am torn between the Vocaster Two, Podtrak P4 and the Zoom H6. I record most of the time alone, at home. But sometimes I need portability to record outside, with another person. So, I ask: have you managed to test the Vocaster Two recorded on the iPad? How was the experience? Thank you in advance.
@@curtisjudd after doing research I can save upto 75 dollars on the Elgato Wave XLR audio interface and it has a whopping 75+ db boost as well so I am going for that instead cause obviously its cheaper.
Possibly, Curtis, a clear skin could be applied to avoid the fingerprint issue, (excepting the keypad). Excellent information and I greatly appreciate your hard work in creating these videos. I share a concern about fingerprints on the unit but in daily use, I find I don't touch the surface much and it stays pretty clean. Yes, I cleaned it when I set it up but not since and it looks good.
Also curious: Does the Vocast 2 output via USB and TRS jack simultaneously? Just wondering if one can record to a computer and camera at the same time. Thanks.

Thanks. Yes, I just tested it with a USB battery bank and it worked. You won’t be able to control the mix or change the enhancements, but it works otherwise.

Thanks Curtis, more and more of my clients are trying to build their own "content creation studios" and this feels like a no brainer recommendation that makes training on how to use the gear super simple. The other big upside, I don't have to travel with extra gear to get my job done. This was fire! I have been personally using the Apogee interface on my workstation setup. The monitor POPs every time the computer powers up or powers down is more than annoying, so for my personal setup, this seems like a much better option at a much lower price.
Thanks Carlos. I’m sure some audiophiles will argue that the Focusrite converters aren’t as amazing, but for practical cases for most of us, the Vocaster is more than sufficient.
@@Slipsch I ran into some software issues with the Lewitt control app on macOS, but they may have addressed those by now (haven't tried recently). But from my experience, I'd probably choose the Vocaster.

However, I realized that the MKH50 is more sensitive than what I actually thought. Every single sound of room noise, can be heard when I raise the gain up to a level where the person from the other side would be able to hear me. So I wanted to get something with an Expander, Noise Gate etc. Didn't know about this back then. So I'm contemplating between the Rodecaster Duo (I never use more than 2 mics), Mackie DLZ Creator or this Vocaster. or do you have any others to recommend? As usually, I am not able to record in a perfect environment at home, with television on, fans operating that I have no control of (can't possibly ask my family members to do it). It's funny because I've been using the MKH50, MKH416 and my CMC641 for many years now for my professional work, and, typically, the environment would be more ideal everyone knows how to be quiet, turning of fans and A/C but when you're at home, it's different and it never come across my mind that the MKH50 will be able to pick up television sound from my living room when I'm in the bedroom. I thought it would be able to reject more than that. Of course getting a dynamic mic will easily solve my issue but I want something that is out of frame. So tradeoffs.

The Volt 2 is around $160 right now and that vintage switch is interesting, but this feels like more of a do it all.

Also, can you use Bluetooth Earpods for monitoring or does is have to be regular headphones with 1/4" jack. As you might guess, I am not an audio guy. Thanks!
Yes, you can use it for video calls. You cannot connect bluetooth headphones to the Vocaster, but if the video call app allows you to choose "speakers/headphones" separately from your microphone, you should be able to connect the AirPods to your computer and that will work fine.
Great video; thank you. Question… I have the Vocaster Two and the monitor mix in my headphones is not what I feel is correct but I've not found a way to fix it. Lets say I'm on a Zoom giving a presentation (almost like a webinar); if I set the volume pot for my headphones so that I can hear my own voice enough to sound natural, the volume of the other people on Zoom is far too loud. I've not found anything either hardware or software related that can fix this. In fact, system level settings on the Mac are disabled once it is set to the Vocaster as the input/output, and then Vocaster Hub does not allow any settings regarding this. Also, Zoom software disables volume control as well, once it recognizes that a USB interface is being used. Any thoughts here? Thank you.

Curtis -- I've seen many of the reviews about this product using a smartphone for samples or music, but can you actually bring in a phone call (such as a call-in) for a two-person podcast with one person on the XLR microphone and the other person on the phone call? Does the TRRS cable provide the capability for the person on the phone to hear you? I am surprised that not one reviewer tested this device with a phone call, especially since many solo podcasters may have a call-in guest. Thanks in advance to anyone that responds.
Hello Curtis, I work with an iMac, Audacity and Vocaster two with 2 microphones via XLR. Unfortunately, I can't get the Vocaster to pass separate tracks to Audacity. I get 2 tracks, each containing both microphones. But I want to have every microphone in one track. Isn't this possible with Vocaster? I would be happy about a tip! Regards, Peter
Thanks! Can this be used with the M1 iPad Pro? The iPad can provide the necessary power. Not sure about apps that will recognise it. Focusrite does not mention this, nor if their "Focusrite Sound" iPad app works with it.
Yes, it works with the iPad Pro M1 models. But as far as I can tell, there is not app for iPad OS so if you wanted to use the enhance modes, I’m not sure how you’d select between them.
@@curtisjudd I see now that the manual mentions it working with iPads that have a USB-C port, but recommends setting up the device with Vocaster Hub app on a computer first. That makes sense. The manual also mentions that iPad audio is sent to Vocaster outputs and the Vocaster input sources are seen by iPad audio recording apps.
Yes, on Vocaster Two, both the 3.5mm input and Bluetooth connections to phone support mix-minus. On Vocaster One, the 3.5mm input supports mix-minus (Vocaster One does not have Bluetooth connection support.)
Just wondering if one can connect a Tascam DR-07 (or other handheld digital recorder) to the Vocast 2 via the unbalanced TRS output that you show here being routed to a DSLR. So, just wondering after watching this video again and having seen your Rodecaster Pro review as well: Is the extra 200 beans worth dropping for the Rodecaster over the Vocast 2 for a basic RUclips podcast involving mainly one participant (and on the odd occasion, two), where the one participant would essentially be working the board by himself? My current workflow is embarrassingly small, cheap, and pedestrian: Shure MX183>Saramonic SmartRig+>Tascam DR-07 mkii (or Yamaha PR7 Pocketrak)>Audacity>Lightworks. Has worked okay to date, but I'm wanting to strengthen a few of the links in my chain, so to speak, starting with bumping up to a higher quality pre-amp with phantom power and more clean gain. Admittedly, either the Vocaster 2 or the Rodecaster would be a sizeable leap above what I have now, but I'm trying to decide if the V2 would be adequate for my needs, or if I'd be better off biting the bullet and stepping-up to the Rodecaster Pro. And I guess as an aside, I'm wondering if the pre-amps in the FocusRite are as high quality as those in the Rodecaster. Blessings.
I have access to an xlr mic that I want to try on Teams/Zoom calls for work. Problem is the company computer is locked out from downloading software/drivers etc. Can I use an audio interface like this one or others just as a pass through for video calls? No need to record or use additional software. Thanks
Any USB audio interface which supports class compliant mode can run without a need for any drivers or other software. Of course you will not have access to the additional features controlled by the software for the Vocaster.
Like most Curtis reviews it's excellent! But at $300 you can pick up an original RodeCaster Pro used for that price and would give you a lot more (The only negative is the Orginal Rode Pre-amps were not all that good) Thoughts? If the 'Enhance' had a slider that would be much better. Curtis Judd a beginner LOL! You know that over RUclips if you 'geek out' over a Mic that called "Curtis Judding" I've heard and seen it if comments all over the place
Can it charge with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable. Weirdly enough, it's not uncommon to find devices with Type-C charging ports that can only charge with a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable. - Great review.

Gosh those mic mute buttons are sexy. Nice big buttons, placed on the extremities so very fast to access when you feel a cough coming, and capacitive so no click or pop, and a visual indicator the mute is active. Perfect. I wish ALL modern interfaces had those. In fact for privacy reasons in our perpetually connected life, I would like the interface to start/boot up with all input muted. Should be very easy to do, and a nice feature. Agree about the power button. Too bad about the settings. Since it's done through a driver/app, hopefully these will get unobfuscated for advanced users and we will have full access to eq and compression and limiters. Overall very nice. A bit expensive, but the interface has some unique features like blutooth and camera jack that could be a life saver for some use case. Only thing missing in my opinion apart from advanced settings, is an analog limiter on those inputs. Edit: and proper metering of course, that's a bit of a blunder.
I don't like the buttons. It looks like a foil covering a "real" button underneath. I've seen many of those in my job. The advantage is of course that the foil keeps out all dust, moisture, grease etc., but only until the foil wears out. In my experience that doesn't always take long, depending on how frequently the button is used. But as the device is mainly aimed at amateurs, it might be okay.
Now, with the latest update, you can modify the enhance presets (compression, eq(base, mid high)). Not detail enough yet but I can control the effect now :)

Every time I watch a review of this interface, I can't seem to be able to see anything past the fingerprints. 😆 It's a nice interface, though, of they could update the software to allow metering and VST support.

Yes, the Vocaster 2 can certainly work with 2 SM7Bs.

Yes, you can bring in remote guests from a phone via the 3.5mm TRRS jack or via Bluetooth.

Are you using macOS or Windows? My guess is that if you're using Windows, you'll need an ASIO driver, but I'd contact Focusrite to confirm.

Thanks! Can this be used with the M1 iPad Pro? The iPad can provide the necessary power. Not sure about apps that will recognise it. Focusrite does not mention this, nor if their "Focusrite Sound" iPad app works with it.
Yes, it works with the iPad Pro M1 models. But as far as I can tell, there is not app for iPad OS so if you wanted to use the enhance modes, I’m not sure how you’d select between them.
@@curtisjudd I see now that the manual mentions it working with iPads that have a USB-C port, but recommends setting up the device with Vocaster Hub app on a computer first. That makes sense. The manual also mentions that iPad audio is sent to Vocaster outputs and the Vocaster input sources are seen by iPad audio recording apps.
Does this have a feature to prevent clipping? If it doesn’t, any comparable options that does have that feature?
It has a compressor and a gain setup feature. Between those two, you should be pretty safe.

Yes, on Vocaster Two, both the 3.5mm input and Bluetooth connections to phone support mix-minus. On Vocaster One, the 3.5mm input supports mix-minus (Vocaster One does not have Bluetooth connection support.)

Just wondering if one can connect a Tascam DR-07 (or other handheld digital recorder) to the Vocast 2 via the unbalanced TRS output that you show here being routed to a DSLR. If so, should one use an attenuation cable, or will any standard 3.5mm TRS cable do? Thanks much, Curtis. Can't tell you how much your videos have helped me through the years.
Shouldn’t need an attenuation cable as the 3.5mm inputs on recorders like the DR-07 are usually mic level inputs.

So, just wondering after watching this video again and having seen your Rodecaster Pro review as well: Is the extra 200 beans worth dropping for the Rodecaster over the Vocast 2 for a basic RUclips podcast involving mainly one participant (and on the odd occasion, two), where the one participant would essentially be working the board by himself? My current workflow is embarrassingly small, cheap, and pedestrian: Shure MX183>Saramonic SmartRig+>Tascam DR-07 mkii (or Yamaha PR7 Pocketrak)>Audacity>Lightworks. Has worked okay to date, but I'm wanting to strengthen a few of the links in my chain, so to speak, starting with bumping up to a higher quality pre-amp with phantom power and more clean gain. Admittedly, either the Vocaster 2 or the Rodecaster would be a sizeable leap above what I have now, but I'm trying to decide if the V2 would be adequate for my needs, or if I'd be better off biting the bullet and stepping-up to the Rodecaster Pro. And I guess as an aside, I'm wondering if the pre-amps in the FocusRite are as high quality as those in the Rodecaster. Blessings.

Problem is the company computer is locked out from downloading software/drivers etc. Can I use an audio interface like this one or others just as a pass through for video calls? No need to record or use additional software. Thanks
Any USB audio interface which supports class compliant mode can run without a need for any drivers or other software. Of course you will not have access to the additional features controlled by the software for the Vocaster.

Like most Curtis reviews it's excellent! But at $300 you can pick up an original RodeCaster Pro used for that price and would give you a lot more (The only negative is the Orginal Rode Pre-amps were not all that good) Thoughts? If the 'Enhance' had a slider that would be much better. Curtis Judd a beginner LOL! You know that over RUclips if you 'geek out' over a Mic that called "Curtis Judding" I've heard and seen it if comments all over the place
Interesting idea. Yes, if you work with microphones which don’t need more than 55dB of gain, a use RODECaster would be a worthy competitor.
Can it charge with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable. Weirdly enough, it's not uncommon to find devices with Type-C charging ports that can only charge with a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable. - Great review.
It can be powered with Type A or Type C connections.

No, you can mix them the two channels down to mono, but it is not a stereo input from what I can tell.

Gosh those mic mute buttons are sexy. Nice big buttons, placed on the extremities so very fast to access when you feel a cough coming, and capacitive so no click or pop, and a visual indicator the mute is active. Perfect. I wish ALL modern interfaces had those.
In fact for privacy reasons in our perpetually connected life, I would like the interface to start/boot up with all input muted. Should be very easy to do, and a nice feature.
Agree about the power button.
Too bad about the settings. Since it's done through a driver/app, hopefully these will get unobfuscated for advanced users and we will have full access to eq and compression and limiters.
Overall very nice. A bit expensive, but the interface has some unique features like blutooth and camera jack that could be a life saver for some use case. Only thing missing in my opinion apart from advanced settings, is an analog limiter on those inputs. Edit: and proper metering of course, that's a bit of a blunder.

I don't like the buttons. It looks like a foil covering a "real" button underneath. I've seen many of those in my job. The advantage is of course that the foil keeps out all dust, moisture, grease etc., but only until the foil wears out. In my experience that doesn't always take long, depending on how frequently the button is used. But as the device is mainly aimed at amateurs, it might be okay.
I’ll let you know if I run into any issues with the durability of the buttons.

Now, with the latest update, you can modify the enhance presets (compression, eq(base, mid high)). Not detail enough yet but I can control the effect now :)

Hi .. as someone who owns this could you say if it works independent of being connected to a PC ... tThis is one of my use cases .. I'd like to be able to take a signal from a FOH mixer into this device and adjust the gain if needed ( boost or trim ) before sending to the camera mic port to my camera while being able to monitor with headphones plugged into this device. Most PCs have USB A and some USB C ports. The C standard isnt as robust which is what I think the PC market responding to.
